“Playing” on the computer Shirley learned many programs and started custom wedding and invitations and cards for friends. Soon CREATE-A-DESIGN was born. Shirley made and sold her custom invitations from home until 1996, when she and her husband Rufus, decided to take a huge gamble and bought a store, CLONE Duplicating and Printing in Del Mar. CREATE-A DESIGN moved to Del Mar, where it has become a very lucrative business. Customers have come from as far as France, London, Israel, Massachusetts, and Las Vegas as well as from within California. It is not as if these invitations could not be purchased in these places, but the knowledge and the patience that Shirley exhibits, is what has made her successful.
